Students at QUT have access to computer laboratories in Faculty buildings and close to the libraries, to research and write assignments, send emails and use the Internet. Staff at the IT Helpdesk are available for assistance with technical problems.

Accounts/passwords

The QUT Computer Accounts and Passwords system allows you to change your password, and see a list of the computer accounts created for your use at QUT.

Computing laboratories

To use any of the computers in QUT's laboratories you will need to enter your QUT-Access user name and password. Specialist software is loaded on computers in faculty-based labs to support particular courses.

Lab software-software and hardware facilities in the central and specific laboratories.

University Entry Programs have computer labs dedicated to the use of their students; some of the labs are available 24 hours.

Computing guides

Student IT Services Guide covers essential computing information for QUT students - account and password, Internet allocation, WebMail, off-campus access, and QUT Virtual.

How to use a computer includes a description of the parts of a computer, and information about printers, modems, and word processors.

Staff IT Services Guide is a guide for new staff and postgraduate students that describes how to obtain and activate your QUT-Access, access your computer, your email account, the Internet, dial-in, and QUT Virtual

Software

Desktop Management and Integration (DMI) manage software distribution on behalf of QUT. Staff can download a software requisition form to purchase software. Contact your local CSO or the IT Helpdesk for work software installation.

Software for home use such as Eudora, Netscape and Internet Explorer, can be downloaded by QUT students and staff.

Microsoft Campus and School Agreement allows QUT staff to access software to work at home. Staff can contact their local CSO to access the available software.

Virus and spyware protection

Virus and Spyware Protection - QUT has dealt with concerns over virus warnings through establishing the QUT Virus Response Team. The team's role is to help the University's staff to deal effectively with computer viruses, and virus warnings.

Equipment hire

QUT Laptop Purchase Program is available for QUT students to hire a Toshiba notebook computer.

Computing help

The IT Helpdesk operates on all campuses of QUT to assist students and staff to use the Information Technology Resources provided by QUT. You can contact the IT Helpdesk staff in person, by telephone, or by email, seven days of the week during semester, and during the Summer Program.

The IT Helpdesk is also available for postgraduate research students to access help with information technology related equipment and services such as PCs, Macs, printers and the QUT network.
