Study and learning assistance is offered to all students across all QUT campuses.
Individual support
Students have access to various systems and services to help them develop the essential knowledge and skills, both discipline-specific and generic. Professional support staff including Academic Skills Advisors, Librarians and Language and Learning Advisors are available to help students develop skills such as assignment preparation, researching effectively, time management, note-taking and critical thinking. Students volunteering as peer mentors are also well equipped to assist their colleagues in adjusting to university studies.
Workshops and seminars
As well as individual support, QUT provides a wide range workshops, seminars and online courses for all students and staff who wish to develop their study skills and maximise their academic performance.
Where to go for assistance
Teaching & Learning Support Services (TALSS) provide free academic skills workshops, individual consultations (upon referral), and online academic skills tutorials to help students succeed in their study.
QUT Library provides information and research skills courses and tutorials to assist students to find, use and manage information efficiently. The PILOT online information literacy tutorial and other free workshops are also available to guide students in using the Library and information resources effectively.
Counselling Services offers students assistance with a range of study-related issues such as exam stress, time management and writing your first draft.
The University provides language and learning advice through International Student Services. Seminars, workshops and individual appointments are available. Language and Learning Advisers also provide services for academic staff.
Indigenous students are entitled to assistance in study skills, research and essay writing through the Oodgeroo Unit, which also provides course and career advice.
