On every campus at QUT you can choose from a range of international cuisines, with halal and vegetarian meals available on all campuses. Cafeterias serve juices, sandwiches, snacks and hot dishes at a reasonable price.

Off-campus Brisbane has many cafes, restaurants and food outlets providing food from all over the world. Halal food can be purchased in many grocery shops and butchers around Brisbane. Chinatown in Fortitude Valley is only a short distance from the Gardens Point campus. Here you can find grocery stores that sell Indian, Fijian, Chinese, Korean, Indonesian, Malaysian, Japanese, Filipino and Thai goods.

The main shopping area in Brisbane is the Queen Street Mall, in the central business district. There are also large suburban shopping malls. Many supermarkets in the suburbs cater to the needs of Brisbane's multicultural population, stocking food, spices and other products from Asia and Europe. See Shopping for further information.

Retail shops are usually open from Monday to Saturday, 8.30 am to 5.30pm. Supermarkets selling food and household items are open longer, often until 9.00pm from Monday to Friday. On Fridays, shops in the city are usually open until 9.00pm, and from 10.00am to 5.00pm on Sundays. In the suburbs, most shops are open until 9.00pm on Thursdays.

Weekend craft markets around the city provide shoppers with a wonderful alternative to the more conventional commercial centres.
